The Arts Program provides all JJSE students with quality arts education   Complementing JJSE’s foci of Independent Thinkers:

Our students’ work has been exhibited at the SOMArts cultural center Youth Art Summit w/ Out of site , the Mission Cultural Center as well as the Young at Art Festival at the De Young Museum.

Clare Holstein has studied vocal performance at California Institute of the Arts, SF Conservatory of Music and American Conservatory Theatre. Clare has performed professionally with the East Bay Childrens Theatre, The Shelton Theatre and The San Francisco Dinner Detective Improv Theatre. She is very excited to join June Jordan as a vocal coach and choir teacher. She enjoys singing classical, jazz, and musical theatre as well as dancing, acting on the stage or for film.  A true performer, Clare Holstein hopes you enjoy the show! (or, class!)

Tali Petschek  – Graduated from the Ceramics Department at CCA California College of the Arts, She has since worked in the culinary art’s  !

Brandon J. Jones is a sculptor, interested in archiving concepts of temporality and memory. Mr Jones earned his BFA from the California College of the Arts in 2010, and continues to live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area. Brandon has worked with local artist Allison Smith on the Fancy Works series for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. Currently, Mr Jones is working with Jeffrey Spahn Gallery.

Theater- w/ Mrs Ides & Carla Wojczuk
(* 1st grading period Spring semester )

Carla Wojczuk is a multi-talented artist, cultural worker and educator who has worked in community based-arts for over a decade. She is a co-artistic director for The Performance Project’s First Generation program and theater piece, ‘Ripple Effect’, where she facilitates intensive, arts and story-based youth leadership development and co-directs multi-disciplinary theater performances about important social issues expressed through the real stories of the ensemble.  She has led full-scale solo and community-based mural projects. She has a MEd in Social Justice Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with concentration on inter-group dialogue and arts-based counter-storytelling.

Melissa Ortiz is the newest member of our staff , graduate of SFSU with her Credential in Arts Education & UC Santa Barbra .

Video ProductionAmanda Vigil

Amanda Vigil is a Xicana filmmaker, educator, performance/ installation artist from San Francisco CA (born & raised in the BAY BABY!!!) Amanda’s Video/Installation & performance work has been seen internationally and locally in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Berlin, Germany. She got her start as an Video artist at the age of 17 with the  Young Artist At Work program (YBCA) and now holds a BFA in Film/Video from the California Institute of the arts (CALARTS). She currently works as a Video Production Educator & Arts Program Director at the June Jordan School for Equity and LOVES every minute of it!
