Independent Practice

We ask students to engage in independent practice at their own level, and we provide differentiated scaffolding and targeted assistance as needed.

This JJSE special education class is a strong example of independent practice: Students are engaged in individual work, with different levels of support and degrees of independence, varying according to their individual needs. Note how the adults sometimes give a word of encouragement or correction and then move away, to allow students to continue working on their own. (This is a good example of how adults use their jedi awareness to pay close attention to everything that is happening in the room.)
